Metanarratives and the Author | |
| "[A] text is made of multiple writings, drawn from many cultures and entering into mutual relations of dialogue, parody, contestation, but there is one place where this multiplicity is focused and that place is the reader, not...the author." --Roland Barthes | ||
| The stories in this section are all parodies of X-Files fan fiction, and include references to fan fiction writers, clichés, and in-jokes about the show. In order to fully understand them, it is necessary to be an informed reader of X-Files fan fiction. Many of these stories also make reference to the author herself, situating her within the fictional world of The X-Files and its interlinked universe, X-Files fan fiction. Like Chris Carter in the Rolling Stone photo above, these stories feature the author in bed, so to speak, with her creations. |
| Untitled Random Case File
#4664 | Jess A fan fiction writer presents Mulder and Scully with a new case (written by her), and follows them along as they investigate it. Written partly as a parody of X-Files fan fiction and its clichés, this story also features Mulder and Scully discussing the way they are written by fan fiction writers, to a fan fiction writer. |
"Good morning,"
Mulder said, extending a hand. "I assume you're our
author for today?" "Mulder," Scully said with a sigh, "Don't you ever read the case files? This is Jessica. She's been writing fanfiction for just over a year. She was a..." She hesitated and then lowered her voice. "She was a movie convert." He stared at me for a moment and then shook his head. "Those are always the worst. Their expectations are too high." |
| Mulder and Scully Have
Sex |
Madeleine Partous and Leyla Harrison A parody of the much-written fan fiction genre of "PWP" (Plot? What Plot?), also known as smut (erotica). The existence of an informed reader is assumed by the authors. |
"So now what,
Mulder?" "We should likely hold each other close and talk about how we love each other, and how much we've waited for this for so long, and how now that we have it, that we're going to have sex all the time, only this time during stories that have actual plots. And then we should talk about getting married, and having Skinner be my best man, because he's going to fall in love with your mother. It's just a shame that Melissa got killed off, because you have no friends to speak of on the show and I have no idea who the hell you'll get to be your maid of honor." |
| My Kingdom for a Muse | Medina The Greek Muses interview potential sexual partners for Scully in order to assist a fan fiction writer with an NC-17 story. The applicants include the Cigarette Smoking Man, Fox Mulder, Walter Skinner, and Melvin Frohike. |
"What dramatic reason
makes you the best choice for the NC-17 job with Dana
Scully?" He was ready for the question. "I make a refreshing change from the tired and trite escapades of Agent Mulder." With a brief rolling of his eyes, he continued. "There is only so much of that man any one can stand. As for what I can offer - I am a mature, sophisticated and rugged man's man. Not to mention the most experienced and unquestionably the most virile. I am the logical choice." |
| Agent Scully and the
Bawdy Award | Halrloprillalar The sequel to "Agent Scully and the Dirty Story". Scully and her group of writing friends at the FBI decide to conduct a contest for writing the best erotic story. This story pokes fun at the annual tradition of voting for the best X-Files fan fiction on the Internet. |
To: washingtonacdc@egroups.com From: Frohike <FroYo@whitehouse.gov> Subject: [Washington AC/DC] And the winner is... Nobody. Everybody apparently voted for their own stories, instead of for mine. I think we need an outside judge. Any ideas? Mel |
| Shipper School | Laura Capozzola Several fan fiction authors known for writing MSR are recruited by FOX to teach Chris Carter and his writing staff how to incorporate romance into The X-Files. |
"I'm Ms. Harrison and this is Ms. Rasch. Our objective, and the objective of the other instructors who will follow, is to get you to incorporate more MSR in the show thus providing a strong foundation for the intimate scenes in the movie. Can anyone tell me what MSR stands for?" |
