In which I reveal the title and cover of the sequel to ADAPTATION
Hello dear readers! For several months now, I’ve kept the title of the sequel to Adaptation a secret because … well, at first I wasn’t sure if it was going to be the final title, and then when I learned the title was final, my publisher (Little, Brown) was in the midst of designing the cover, and I thought: Hey, maybe it would be cool to reveal the title along with the cover at the same time.
Well, today’s the day. I am so excited to share with you the title and the cover of the sequel to Adaptation, as well as the description of the book itself!
In case you’re wondering, I totally love this cover. It was the very first cover shoot any of my books have had! I was also involved in the concept stage, and on Thursday I’m going to post a behind-the-scenes description of the whole cover process. But today, you’ll just get to look at the pretty.
Before I reveal all, let me give you a SPOILER WARNING. There are TONS of spoilers for Adaptation in the cover copy for the sequel, which will follow below the cover image! If you haven’t read Adaptation yet, I suggest you do not read the cover copy for the sequel. I will put some spoiler space between the cover and the cover copy to warn you again.

The triangular spaceship hovered motionless in the sky above Reese Holloway’s house, as inscrutable as a black hole. It had seemed like a good idea when they were inside: to tell the truth about what happened to them at Area 51. It didn’t seem like such a good idea now.
Reese and David are not normal teens—not since they were adapted with alien DNA by the Imria, an extraterrestrial race that has been secretly visiting Earth for decades. Now everyone is trying to get to them: the government, the Imria, and a mysterious corporation that would do anything for the upper hand against the aliens.
Beyond the web of conspiracies, Reese can’t reconcile her love for David with her feelings for her ex-girlfriend Amber, an Imrian. But her choice between two worlds will play a critical role in determining the future of humanity, the Imria’s place in it, and the inheritance she and David will bring to the universe.
In this gripping sequel to Adaptation, Malinda Lo brings a thoughtful exploration of adolescence, sexuality, and “the other” to a science fiction thriller that is impossible to put down.

Here’s the last thing I’ll reveal today:
Inheritance, the sequel to Adaptation, will be on shelves September 18 24, 2013. I am super excited/nervous for you to read it!
Come back on Thursday for the behind-the-scenes story of the cover shoot!

I love it! I can’t wait to read this and I think the cover is awesome. I can’t wait to hear about the whole process!
Oh my goodness it’s great! Fits wonderfully with the tone of the first book. Fantastic continuity.
I loved ADAPTATION am am soooo looking forward to the sequel!
Wow what will I do until 9-18-13 I can’t wait to read it. I have read all of your books but this series is my favorite so far. I could not put down the first book.
Great cover! Adaptation was my favorite YA read for 2012, and I don’t usually like sci fi that much. When will ARCs be available for request?
Oooh, this sounds so good! And what Kim said – ARCs soon?
Adaptation was my Jan 14th feature on BooksYALove: http://booksyalove.blogspot.com/2013/01/adaptation-by-malinda-lo-fiction-bird.html (working through my 2012 read-now-must-publish-review stack).
Ignoring the text of the post because I don’t want to be spoiled, but that cover is fantastic! I like how it matches Adaptation yet is different. I can’t wait for Thursday’s post.
Ooh, that cover is awesome–I love the colors, and the title is fabulous, too! I’m really looking forward to continuing Reese’s story in Inheritance.
Can’t wait!
So glad you’re liking the cover!
Re: ARCs — I’m not sure when they’ll be available, but I would guess within the next few months. I’ll definitely post about it on my blog when the time comes. Meanwhile, if you’re a reviewer/blogger you can always send an email to publicity@lbchildrens.com to request an ARC in advance if you’d like. Of course, I can’t guarantee that Little, Brown will send you one, but it probably doesn’t hurt to ask.
Eddd! Exciting!
