The Miseducation of Cameron Post

I’m not usually a big fan of coming-out stories. I feel like I’ve read/watched/heard/been through a lot of them. But every once in a while a coming-out story is published that hits it out of the park and reminds me not only why (and how) they can work, it also reminds me how connected queer folks are. While we might grow up and come out in different parts of the world, there are so many commonalities to our experiences. This is such a book:

Emily M. Danforth‘s The Miseducation of Cameron Post is a novel about growing up in the late ’80s/early ’90s in the middle of Montana. This is a novel about falling in love, and having your heart broken. This is about a girl named Cameron Post, and how she discovers who she is. (Also, she must be pretty hot, because, well, read the book to find out why.)

Cameron Post is published by a young adult publisher, but it is definitely also for adults. In fact, I think adults might even enjoy it a little more. I reviewed it for NPR today, and you can read my full review here.
