This week’s special updates!

I have been working on a lengthy, rant-like post for many days now, but it is still not finished simmering down, so in the meantime, here are three important and very special updates:

1. In which I interview Robin McKinley

Today over at the Enchanted Inkpot I have posted an interview with Robin McKinley! If you don’t know who Robin McKinley is, she is basically one of my favorite writers, ever. Her Beauty was probably one of the primary influences behind my choice to write Ash.

Anyway, Ms. McKinley has a new book coming out this fall titled Pegasus, and it’s about a girl and her pegasus and all the difficulties and complications that come from humans attempting to communicate with an entirely different species, with an entirely different culture, and by the way, they can fly. Ms. McKinley answered a few questions about the genesis of this novel and the research she did while (or before) writing it. Even better? Her publisher is giving away three advance copies of the book, so you don’t even have to wait till November to read it. You can just comment at the end of the interview to win an ARC.

2. In which I prepare to go to the Sonoma County Book Festival

This Saturday I’ll be part of a young adult panel at the Sonoma County Book Festival in Santa Rosa, California, along with Kim Culbertson and Barbara Quick. The details:

Young Adult Fiction Panel
2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Cafe Azul
521 4th Street
Santa Rosa, CA

I believe we’ll start off with a panel discussion, followed by a book signing. I’m looking forward to it!

3. In which I announce a fabulous event in my (sorta) hometown, Boulder, Colorado!

I am heading to Colorado in a couple of weeks for the Sirens Conference, which I am totally excited about! But I bet you didn’t know that I actually grew up in Louisville, Colorado, a small town about 15 minutes from Boulder. (Well, probably some of you know that — hi, friends!)

Anyway, after Sirens I’ll be sticking around Colorado for a while to visit my family, and I’ll also be part of an awesome 10-author event in Boulder on Oct. 13th! Which authors, you may ask? Well, check it out:

Paolo Bacigalupi
Terri Clark
Amy Efaw
Lindsay Eland
Ingrid Law
Malinda Lo (me!)
Sarah Ockler
Julie Anne Peters
Amy Kathleen Ryan
Denise Vega

And here’s the nitty gritty about the event:

Ten Authors, One Bookstore!
October 13, 2010
5:00 PM
Barnes & Noble
2999 Pearl St.
Boulder, CO 80301

We don’t know yet quite how we’re going to work it — obviously there won’t be time for all of us to do lengthy readings, for example. But I assure you that much fun will be had by all. Actually, if you have any suggestions for how you would prefer a multi-author bookstore event to proceed, feel free to tell me in the comments.

More later.
