A writing workshop especially for teens

Attention all San Francisco Bay Area Teens! I’m going to be co-teaching a writing workshop especially for teens on June 19, 2010, at Book Passage in Corte Madera, CA. Here are the official details:

Fiction Writing for Teens ($150)
Saturday, June 19, 2010
10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Book Passage
Corte Madera, CA

Come fill your writer’s toolbox with everything you need for fiction writing. Three published authors of young adult literature will work with you on character, voice, setting, plot, and dialog. A literary agent will explain what it takes to get your work published. Bring laptop or pen and paper. For teens only. 48 hours advance registration required.

Cheryl Renee Herbsman is the author of Breathing. Heidi Kling is the author of Sea. Malinda Lo is the author of Ash. Mary Kole is an agent with the Andrea Brown Literary Agency. These Young Adult authors will sign copies of their books immediately following the workshop at 3:00 pm.

And here are the unofficial details from me:

If you’re a teen and you’re a writer, or if you’re a teen and you hope to be a writer someday, this is the workshop for you. We’ll start off with some fun writing warm-ups, and then walk you through the basics of novel writing. Each segment will include time for writing, either individually or in a group activity, and there will be plenty of time for you to ask questions. At the end of the day, you’ll get the inside scoop on how to get published from a literary agent.

I can also tell you that I will be teaching the segment on plot, which should be fun, since I plan to make use of the following:

You can go here to register for this workshop. I’m really looking forward to it!
