In case you missed it, I’ve been around the web lately in a variety of places:
- I recently guest-blogged at Justine Larbalestier’s site about the first time a teacher gave me a book to read that was supposed to represent me and my background: Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston. It didn’t go exactly the way my teacher planned.
- The Lambda Literary Foundation recently relaunched their website with a gorgeous new look and blog, and I was interviewed for one of their first articles, along with Nick Burd, Sara Ryan, and others: What Do LGBTQ Teens Want?
- I guest-blogged at Cheryl Renee Herbsman’s website about the way that weather affects my writing.
- Kidlit blogger Tarie interviewed me for Color Online about the research that went into writing Ash, and about being a woman writer of color.
- The Ninja Librarian has reviewed Ash, and I had to share it with you because, well, her name is Ninja Librarian! How awesome is that? Also I really enjoyed this part of the review:
I really liked that Ash was not completely enthralled with royal life and dressing for balls and such. This Ash was a more realistic (to my mind) girl who just wanted to be away from where she ended up. I could identify a lot more with her than a girl who desired to be someone important.
Thanks, Ninja Librarian! (Incidentally, what kind of weapons do you think she has? Can she throw a sharp pencil like like one of those throwing stars?)
- SF Signal interviewed me for their Mind Meld series! (I was really tickled by this. Who doesn’t want to be part of a mind meld?) I got to talk about which book I wish had been nominated for a Nebula this year.
- Today I’m part of an Enchanted Inkpot roundup post about “New-Fashioned” Fantasy: What Does It Look Like?
And a couple of reminders:
- This Saturday, March 13, I’m going to be reading at SF in SF along with Chaz Brenchley (Daniel Fox). This is a monthly reading series at the Variety Preview Room in San Francisco, complete with moderator Terry Bisson who will ask us some questions, and a bar! Yes, a bar! So if you like to hang out with cool SF people (SF meaning both science fiction and San Francisco), please join us. Doors open at 6; the event begins at 7. I’m really looking forward to it.
- Last but not least, don’t forget about my ASH across-the-pond giveaway. Since I’ve gotten over 50 entries (yay!), I’m going to add one more copy of the U.K. edition to the giveaway, which means I’m giving away three copies! The contest is open until March 18, and it’s open to all readers, U.S. and abroad. So if you haven’t entered yet, go for it!
