So … there will be a slight delay in this week’s special Ash-related post, which I’m tentatively titling “The Rough Guide to Ash‘s World.” Delay is due to, um, life.

In the meantime, I need some questions! I’m not talking about Frequently Asked ones — I want some infrequently asked, extremely creative, fun-to-read and fun-to-answer questions. And I need them by this Thursday, Aug. 20, so that I can post my own special Ash-related interview next week.

My challenge to you is: Ask me some fantastic questions about Ash. You can leave them in the comments here or email me at mlo at malindalo.com. You can ask anything, although if you’ve read the book and want to ask a spoilery question, please add a spoiler warning at the top of your comment (better yet, email me if you have a spoilery question).

I will choose my five favorite questions, and those questioners will win a beautiful Ash poster. I’ll sign it for you too, if you wish.

The beautiful poster!

The beautiful poster!

To summarize: Ask me interesting questions by Aug. 20! My five favorite will win an Ash poster.

I can’t wait to hear what you all come up with. :)

Should we judge Ash by its cover?

Why did you include Sidhean in the story? What about his character made him fun to write?

Lauren August 18, 2009 at 12:55 pm

Do Sidhean and Kaisa represent real people in your life? Or, are they more representative of the two, for lack of a better word, lifestyles a young gay person is torn between?

We live in an age of “Girl Power.” Why did you choose the Cinderalla character to represent Ash? Isn’t she merely waiting to be rescued like a damsel in distress rather than pursue self-actualization?

If a reader isn’t a fan of Cinderella what other draw could I use to encourage her to read it?

In a previous post you mentioned that you listened to K.T Tunstall repeatedly when writing a certain scene. How do you think that scene would have panned out if you had listened to Madonna instead?

While holding true to your original concept – how would one character arc change if the race of Ash was re-cast as Chinese, and the story set was in modern day Flushings, Queens?

I’ve just mentioned Ash in a list I just posted about girls who read in fantasy books (http://charlotteslibrary.blogspot.com/2009/08/ill-help-save-world-but-just-let-me.html). I love how important her books are to her!

As I said in my post, it seems to me that there are publishers of books in Ash’s world, and I wanted to ask if this is true or not. And are there any used book stores?

First of all, I am really looking forward to reading this book and the question I am about to ask isn’t intended to be discourteous like it sounds.

How does your re-telling of Cinderella differ from fanfiction?

Denise August 20, 2009 at 10:40 am

Okay Her a questsion

Ash a re-telling of Cinderal in a farie tail tail with a
“It’s a lesbian retelling of
Cinderella.” Was that the way it has always been Ash falling In slove witha Woman
Was their and worries that people would get offended `?????

I personally Love that twist and Cant wait to read ASh

Although this is late I wondered if the questioned could still be answered…
Why ASH? I mean why a retelling of Cinderella with the modern twist of homosexuality? and in that sense why not another fairy tale? Why through a fantasy retell instead of a regular, normal element (not that I’m complaining!) I guess in general (as cliche and not exciting as it sounds, as it is a pretty normal, overused question) why did you feel the need to tell this story in particular? Thank you so much and I’m looking forward to reading the book once it hits the shelves!!!
