As you read this, I should be jetting off to my very first Professional Author Engagement, aka the American Library Association Annual Conference in Chicago. Woohoo! I am excited to meet lots of librarians, the awesome school and library marketing team at Little, Brown, and many authors including Sarah Ockler and Justina Chen Headley. (Go read their books! They’re fabulous!)
I’ll be signing copies of Ash on Monday, July 13, at two times:
Signing #1: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Little, Brown booth (#2212)
Signing #2: 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
BWI Booth (#4611)
Stop by and say hello if you’ll be there! Info on getting into the exhibits is here. And here is a peek at the Little, Brown booth itself (with Ash), courtesy of author Kate Messner via Twitpic (follow @KateMessner for more ALA goodies):
I’d also like to mention that this is my very first signing, so if I screw up the spelling of your name (or mine!), please excuse my first-timer jitters. It’s true that I have been practicing autographing my name since I was 12 (seriously — when other girls practiced writing their names as Mrs. Boy-they-have-a-crush on, I was pretending I was autographing my books), but still, I anticipate some butterflies.
In other news, I have confirmed that the U.K. publication date for Ash has been pushed back to March 2010. I know this might seem initially disappointing, but actually I am relieved because it means there is more time to get the word out about Ash in the “U.K.” — which means Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, etc. Whew!
Also, last week I got the U.K. cover proof and it is totally mesmerizing. Check it out:
I love it! When you move it around in the light, the cover changes colors. I think it will be extremely eye-catching, and really, the flat .jpg image I posted earlier doesn’t do it justice.
The illustration is by David Wyatt, who has illustrated books by Diana Wynne Jones, Philip Pullman, and Terry Pratchett, among others. Check out his website to see more of his stunning work.
Lastly, a few things to keep you occupied while I’m gone, in case you missed them:
- Sarah Pecora and I are shooting another 7-episode series of “The Lo-Down,” the vlog I used to do for AfterEllen.com. In this new vlog I reveal the subject of the series!
- I just gave away an advance copy of Ash to one of my Twitter followers on the occasion of my reaching 700 followers. Thanks so much to all my followers, old and new! Do follow me if you’re not already, since I hope to do more Twitter giveaways in the future.
- Ash is going to be published in Italy. Urrà!
And now I will leave you with a picture of 007, who would like everyone to know that she is the Best Dog in the Universe, and will always be way cooler than any publishing news.

Just checked out Ash at ALA. Looks awesome! I’m really bummed I won’t be there for your signing on Monday. Watch out. Librarians are weird (mostly “good weird”, but still).
I’ll be there today!
And librarians are strange creatures, I must admit to being one myself. I love the UK cover, so pretty.
Wow – the UK version of the cover is so pretty as well! It looks so shimmery; in fact, I bet it looks even better in real life. Have fun at ALA!
This comment is for the Dorothy Surrender give away; by the time I got to the site, the “comments” count was already at 230! I’m looking forward to the release; your next novel sounds more intriguing. I’m drawn to strong women characters.
I don’t think I will get to any of your signings, unless Hawaii is one of your stops.
Good luck!
Would you be interested in writing for The Neave Online Publication? I love your writing style and I feel like you would fit in perfectly with the other writers.
