Photo Friday: Baseball season
In the last year, I have become a baseball fan.
Yes, it’s true. Some of my longtime friends may gasp in shock, and believe me, I was just as surprised as they were when I found myself not only enjoying but looking forward to baseball games! Amy, you see, is a Red Sox fan. Since I have many fond memories of Boston myself (having gone to college in the area), I found it pretty easy to develop a fannish devotion to the Red Sox myself. (Plus, she watches/listens to/reads about all the games, so I really had no choice.)
Last week we went to see the Red Sox play the Oakland A’s. Luckily we were there on a relatively balmy night (even though I admit I did wind up pulling out the blanket we had brought). Unluckily, the Sox lost. However, I did take some photos of that night.
Here’s Oakland Coliseum under the lights:

I always find it a little funny that they send out teams of guys with rakes between innings. I mean, it’s just gonna get messed up again. Who knew baseball teams would have anything in common with Zen gardeners?
I like this picture because it looks sort of like a flying saucer. But just check out the number of red caps in that photo: Oakland had a lot of Red Sox fans that night.
I forgot to take pictures of any of the junk food I bought till after I ate it, and that wouldn’t make a very good picture, would it? So I’ll just report back: I ordered a bratwurst; it was kinda gross. I ate half of Amy’s jumbo hot dog, which was really disturbingly large. I went back for french fries, which were delicious. And I bought all that stuff here:
Last stop of the night: the Bart station. We took the train to the car, which we drove home.
I am very excited that the Red Sox have been on a winning streak lately! Knock on wood. Or whatever baseball luck metaphor is most appropriate (I’m new to this baseball fan thingie).
