This week the final five contestants on American Idol will tackle “Rat Pack Standards.” This pretty much sounds like the worst idea I’ve ever heard, but then again, nobody at American Idol asked me. Nevertheless, I am super excited that gaygothboy Adam Lambert will be one of those tasked with remaking/ruining some fabulous tunes!
Some folks have found Adam’s falsetto and uber-dramatic eyeliner a bit off-putting. Not me! After seven seasons of zero openly gay/lesbian contestants on American Idol, I am so psyched that Adam has made it this far in Season 8. Maybe his pouty lips and bedroom eyes are confusing all those teen girls into thinking he’s singing to them.
I am really looking forward to hearing (and seeing) Adam’s take on a Sinatra-era classic. Even his weird choices (like his bizarre version of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”) are, at least, interesting. But I am not looking forward to Danny Gokey. I admit there was something about him that I found off-putting from the very first week — maybe the self-consciously hip fashion he’s always wearing, maybe the fact that he has the gall to wear Tina Fey glasses. But the thing that annoys me the most about Gokey is that the judges seem to universally adore him even while he turns in consistently mediocre performances. I don’t get it. I mean, honestly, Lil Rounds was better than him, and I wasn’t even that big of a Lil Rounds fan.
Argh. On the other hand, I think it’ll be fun to see if Allison Iraheta can find a Rat Pack song to turn into a Pat Benatar number. I doubt that Allison’s going to make it much further into the competition, but I would be really happy if someone proved me wrong. I love her spunk and her rock vibe. I’m not saying I’d buy her first album, but maybe her second or third.
As for the other two guys in the final five, Kris Allen and Matt Giraud, I’m definitely more of a Kris fan. He seems sweet — but not in an annoying way, and I’ve liked his recent song interpretations. If I could fix it, my final five would count down like this:

I’m pretty sure I’m wrong, but I think Adam does have a shot at the final two. What do you think? Who are your faves? Do you share my frustrations about Gokey?

My favorite two from the beginning : Adam and Allison. Probably Allison does not have the versatility or showmanship yet to get that far..great voice, tho. Adam, on the other hand is far and away the best EVER to show up on Ai. I am amazed at his vocal talents, performing ability, personality etc,etc. I used to think he was the best male vocalist on Ai ever…now he is just the best.And, he is gorgeous ! Don’t make fun of the young girls screaming for him, they buy recods too.He knows that quite well, I think.He is a very savvy guy, and I believe he appreciates all his fans whether they know much about him or not. They like him. I am old and a Josh Groban fan..and.I adore Adam If he does not win, Idol will lose whatever credibility it has. Do you agree ? P.S. I do not GET Danny..???He does not sing that well, has no personality is kinda GEEKY ?
I was not a Kris fan at all until last week’s funky, almost-Caribbean-style Donna Summer song and then I realized… I would buy this guy’s album (of course, I do have a Taylor Hicks CD currently collecting dust somewhere in my house). As for Gokey… I like him. I can’t help it. I think he’s got a great ballady voice, even though he’s not exactly wowed me for a couple weeks. But my favorite, hands-down is Adam. I used to reallyreallyREALLY want him to win, but now… I don’t think it matters anymore. This guy’s got a career in front of him and doesn’t need a win (sort of like Daughtry). I can’t wait until he puts out an album. I’ll be first in line to buy. I’d kind of like to see an Adam/Allison final (she’s got mad talent herself).

I would love to see Danny in the #2 spot too. I also think Kris has a very good chance of taking the #2 for himself. I LOVE Allison and Adam. Adam totally doesn’t need this contest to make it big.

I am Totally agreeing with you! Adam Lambert is my top 1 and what do you know, he is now in the final 2. Honestly I think he is gonna take this whole compition and really go BIG! Allison would be my next fave but she disnt make it any further.
Well can’t wait for the results.
