In my playlist
This week has been quite a busy one for me so far, and it’s only Wednesday! I’ve been running around trying to get so many things done that posting a thoughtful blog post seems like way too much, so I’m going to go for the easy and reveal three songs I’ve been listening to recently.
First up is the new U2 single, "Get On Your Boots" (no video, just song):
The first time I heard the song, I was really intrigued. The second time, I wasn’t so sure. I’m a U2 fan from way back, so I know I’ll be getting their new CD when it comes out next month; I’m curious to see how this song fits into the album as a whole. In recent years I’ve usually not liked their lead single, but have gone on to enjoy the albums themselves, so my fingers are crossed this time around, too.
Next: The classic "Brown Sugar" by D’Angelo
All yesterday as I was writing my latest Notes & Queeries column, I had D’Angelo on repeat. It doesn’t make a lot of sense thematically, because the column has nothing to do with the mood this song evokes, but whatever, somehow it worked for me!
Lastly, Massive Attack’s "Angel":
I’ve also been a longtime fan of Massive Attack, and I am very impatiently awaiting their fifth studio album, whenever it’s going to come out. I’ve been finding that "Angel" helps me get me into Book 2 (OK, the entire Mezzanine album, which is completely awesome), and I think this might be one of the first songs I put onto my Book 2 playlist.
What have you been listening to lately?

I wrote most of Always to Mezzanine. It’s the kind of music that throws me into writing space.
Massive Attack are like ice cream for the soul. cool, inviting and soothing.
You’ve got to check out An Horse’s first album Rearrange Beds. It’s on constant repeat on my iPod right now. Good stuff!
