Dec 21, 2008

Happy holidays!

I won’t be blogging around here until the new year, as I’m about to head off to visit family for the holidays. I’ll be back in a couple of weeks with a 2008 wrap-up and a 2009 look-ahead. Meanwhile, I’d like to ask those of you who read my / on a regular basis: What would you like me to bring you in 2009? (Please note: I am unable to bring anyone Jennifer Beals, Katee Sackhoff or a better story line for The L Word. Sorry!)

Basically, as I prepare to launch my first novel (!!!) I’ll be upgrading my website. What would you want to see on my website that would make it worth your while to come back regularly? Do you want previously unpublished "exclusive" writing? Do you want me to write about particular topics? Do you want an entire archive of The Lo-Down? (I can’t believe I just suggested that!) I’ll also be revising my About section, since it’s pretty plain. Is there anything you’d like to know about me or my writing? (I reserve the right not to answer. :) )

Many of you have been so kind in writing to me to say that you’ve liked what I write, and I want to return the favor (sort of). And I want to bring you with me as I write new and different stuff. So let me know what you think!

Meanwhile, I hope you all have a joyful and peaceful holiday …

I’m intrigued! What kind of “exclusive” writing do you have? I was actually thinking the other day that it would be cool to see what kind of stuff was scrapped before a book makes it to its final version — like getting to see deleted scenes on a DVD. It wouldn’t make sense to share something like that till after the book was out and people had read it, but I think it would be really interesting to see what got cut — or even just the original version of a chapter, from the first draft or something.

Actually, I don’t think November counts as “the other day”. (Oh! I have a question for you, as a writer. Should the period at the end of the previous sentence be inside the quotation marks? That always bugs be, because I know that when it’s dialogue, the punctuation goes on the inside, but when it’s a phrase I don’t know what to do.) (Sorry, I’m easily distracted, what was I talking about?) Right, okay, so I was thinking about novels a lot in November because I did NaNoWriMo (writing a 50,000 word novel/first draft in a month). I couldn’t even begin to tell you why I did it. I’m not a writer. I actually hit 50k though and I am planning on gathering all of my courage and reading and beginning to edit it in January. So since November I have been having a lot of novel-related thoughts bouncing around my head — and after that experience I am far more in awe of books in general than I was before — and of you, for having written one that is being published.

Wow, I have serious rambling problems — sorry about the word vomit all over your comments section.

You don’t have to add anything to make me come back regularly. It’s already worth my while, I enjoy reading what you have to say. I subscribed to your feed via Thunderbird, so now whenever I see that there’s a new post, I can’t help but read it.

I’m trying to think of something to ask “about” you. Huh. I’m stuck, I can’t think of anything good right now. I’ll come back later if I come up with anything.

    Happy Holidays!

And seriously, sorry about the rambling.

LMAO! Holy Crap! I knew my comment was long, but I didn’t think it was *that* long! It’s longer than your blog entry! *is embarrassed*

I like that I never know what you are going to decide to write about. It is always a pleasant suprise. I enjoy the mix of book reviews, random thoughts, writing advice, writing frustrations, recipes, and political pieces. The Low-Down was fun, especially the Crock P.O.C.

Would we like you to add “previously unpublished “exclusive” writing? Do you really have to ask? Really? YES, we’d love it! And while we have an open window to be greedy, instead of just an archive of Low-Down, how about bringing Sarah back so that the two of you can hash out politics, travel, life, and the adventures of her and the new baby. It wouldn’t necessarily have to be on a regular schedule. Ultimately we’d really like to see the baby and the family. Maybe the girlfriends could make an appearance on the show and tell us all the good stuff on both of you.
Your on a roll, best to you in 2009.
“bring Sarah back, bring Sarah back, bring…
